PATROL METHOD

The patrol method is introduced in Ấu Đoàn, practiced in Thiếu Đoàn, and refined in Kha Thanh Đoàn.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

  • Leadership training begins young and culminates in their last year of high school where they have a chance to go to Ấu Đoàn, Thiếu Đoàn, and Kha Thanh Đoàn to serve and lead their younger scouting siblings.
  • Ấu Sinh goes through Đầu Đàn Training.
  • Thiếu Sinh goes through Khóa Tây Sơn Training.
  • Kha Thanh Sinh goes through Khóa Chí Linh Training.

SERVICE

  • Service is the hallmark of scouting.
  • Programs are designed to ingrain the ideals of service.
  • Earning the Gold Award or Eagle Rank is not the end of their scouting years, but rather the beginning of their scouting journey - a life dedicated to helping others at all time.
  • It is no surprise the virtue of helping others appears in both the scout law and scout oath.

IDEALS: DO YOUR BEST

  • Doing your best is very different than being the best.
  • Our training does not expect our scouts to be the best.
  • Such expectation often backfires because many scouts may never want to try to take the first step. Why?
  • If they can't be the best, then there’s no use to begin the task.
  • Or they may feel so intimidated to start because they don’t want to risk failure.
  • The end result of such expectation is less than desirable, leading to arrogance (I’m the best and you’re not!) or lacking empathy (without regards for other feelings, they may do whatever it takes, cheating included, to achieve the status of being the best).
  • In every activity, it’s important to emphasize to all scouts to simply do their best and not focus on being the best.

PERSONAL GROWTH

  • LD Chi Lăng values the personal growth that comes along with the leadership training.
  • To be a good leader, scouts must learn to lead themselves first.
  • They must have a vision of what they want to do and they’re encouraged to go beyond their comfort zone to achieve that vision.
  • There’s no safer place to fail than in scouting because it’s a place that allows scouts to grow and learn, especially from their mistakes.
  • Through these mistakes, scouts learn the principles of self-discipline, or tinh than tu giac, to help scouts reflect and grow from those experiences.
  • It’s through their experiences with proper guidance, coaching, and mentorship, scouts will achieve this personal growth.
